It wasn't just Liverpool that enjoyed an impressive win on Wednesday night ahead of the return of Champions League football next week. The Reds beat Newcastle United 2-0 in the Premier League to extend their lead at the top of the table over Arsenal to 13 points.

The win over the Magpies was the final game that Liverpool will play before facing Paris Saint-Germain in the last-16 of the Champions League. Arne Slot and Co. will travel to the French capital for the first leg on March 5 before the return leg at Anfield a week later.

PSG were also in action on Wednesday night as they faced Stade Briochin in the quarter-final of the Coupe de France. Luis Enrique's side recorded a 7-0 win over the French fourth-tier club thanks to a hat-trick from Goncalo Ramos, supported by goals from Joao Neves, Desire Doue, Senny Mayulu and Ousmane Dembele.

The win for PSG comes after the Ligue 1 giants put seven goals past Brest in the Champions League play-off round to win 10-0 on aggregate last week. After the victory over Briochin, Enrique outlined why he is optimistic about his team's chances of facing Liverpool next week in Europe.

"Well, if you look at Liverpool, which is theoretically in a transition year, they have a top-level coach [Slot] and remain one of the best teams in Europe," Enrique told reporters on Wednesday via Sports Illustrated.

"Their results prove it—they're at the top of the table. But I believe we will be in the competition, and we will make it difficult for them. The goal is to fight until the end."

Liverpool will not be in action this weekend, but that is not the case for PSG. Enrique and Co. will be back on Ligue 1 duty on Saturday as they face Lille, having scored 17 goals across their last three matches in all competitions.
