Manchester City will be desperate for three points in the Champions League later today, with Pep Guardiola's side taking on fellow League Phase strugglers Paris Saint-Germain.

It's safe to say that the majority of people would've expected Man City and PSG to ease their way to knockout stage qualification in the Champions League at the beginning of the season, but that's been far from the case, with both sides sitting near the bottom of the qualification play-off spots. With just eight points, City sit 22nd in the table, two places above PSG, with the reigning French champions sat just outside the qualification spots.

If Guardiola's side wants any chance of automatic qualification, a win today is vital. City's confidence would've been given a boost ahead of the Champions League clash following a 6-0 win against Ipswich Town in the Premier League, extending City's unbeaten run to six games across all competitions.

New signings Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis have both trained with the City squad after signing this month, but neither will be eligible to play PSG as they cannot be registered until the League Phase is over. So, can City pick up a big three points later today? Let's take a look.

We simulated Paris Saint-Germain vs Man City to get a score prediction

To complete this simulation, we used EA FC 25 and updated the squads with the latest injuries and suspensions.

We predict that the French side could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: Donnarumma; Hakimi, Beraldo, Hernandez, Mendes; Vitinha, Zaire-Emery, Fabian; Dembele, Ramos, Barcola.

We predict that City could line up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their starting XI as follows: Ederson; Lewis, Akanji, Dias, Gvardiol; Gundogan, Kovacic; Foden, De Bruyne, Savinho; Haaland.

PSG controlled the opening stages in Paris as City struggled to get a foot in the game, and nine minutes in the hosts went ahead, with Ederson palming a shot into the feet of Bradley Barcola who tapped into an empty net at the back post. It was the worst possible start for Guardiola's side, but after a period of possession in the 32nd minute, City found an equaliser.

An interception from Mateo Kovacic allowed City to hit PSG on the break, with the Croatian finding Kevin De Bruyne to lead the attack. The Belgian surged towards goal before sliding a pass through for Savinho, and after getting the wrong side of Achraf Hakimi, the Brazilian rifled his effort into the top corner to level the score.

Just after half-time, City were given a glorious opportunity to level the score when Erling Haaland was brought down in the box to win a penalty, but the Norwegian was unable to convert his spot-kick, sending the 'keeper the wrong way but hitting the post. The final 30 minutes saw both sides create plenty of chances, but it was the hosts who were more clinical, grabbing the winning goal in the 83rd minute.

After working the ball down the right, Barcola skipped past Rico Lewis before firing a cross into the middle of the box. Ousmane Dembele drifted into the middle unmarked to meet the ball, and the Frenchman fired home from a few yards out to hand City a far-from-ideal defeat.
