Former Motherwell defender Stephen Craigan was like most Aberdeen fans on Saturday and left baffled by the defensive howlers that handed St Mirren a 3-0 victory.

But the pundit has been left feeling Jimmy Thelin has not learned how to set up his side to defend against the Buddies after the Dons' second defeat to Stephen Robinson's men. In three meetings this season, Aberdeen have conceded six goals, the first coming in a relatively comfortable 3-1 victory at Pittodrie for Thelin's men.

St Mirren then ran out 2-1 winners in Paisley last November in the game that started the 13-game winless run in the Premiership that has left the Dons fourth in the table. Then last weekend it would be an easy 3-0 victory for the Buddies who capitalised on two defensive howlers from Slobodan Rubezic before he asked to be subbed off on approach to half-time.

Craigan told the BBC's Scottish Football Podcast that all the goals the Dons have conceded to the Saints have been "very, very similar." He also admitted he was surprised the boss wasn't prepared to guard against them having insisted he is the man to turn fortunes around in the Granite City.

Toyosi Olusanya opened the scoring at Pittodrie after just seven minutes following a slip up from Rubezic, before the centre-half was outmuscled by Olusanya, who set up Mikael Mandron, for the second.

"I think back to the goals that Aberdeen have conceded against St Mirren in the three games, they've all been very, very similar," Craigan said.

"Balls over the top and someone running onto it, but Thelin was adamant after that he would have to work on the defensive structure and how they were set up and how they could stop that happening again. You think you would have learned from the first time."
