Judd Trump’s victory at the World Snooker Championship has seen one prophetic punter cash in on a 21-year-old bet, which saw him walk away with £10,000.

Neil Morrice placed a £10 wager on Trump to win the sport’s top prize after spotting him at just eight years old at a snooker club near Bristol in 1998.

Morrice, a journalist at the Racing Post, was given odds on 1000-1 by bookmaker Coral after seeing spotting Trump’s talent at Keynsham Snooker Club during a chance encounter with his son.

Speaking to the Bristol Post, Morrice, 62, revealed how the meeting was a clear indication he’d seen a world champion in the making.

“I took my 12-year-old son Richard, who was a decent club player, on the circuit most weekends. On this one we ventured a bit further afield. So we went to Keynsham snooker club, near Bristol, for a competition.

“This little lad came up to us and said if he fancied having a frame, he was about eight. He actually said he would give Richard a 20-point start, which made me chuckle.”

What happened next left Morrice stunned, but in doubt as to what to do next.

“He literally annihilated him in both frames. Straight away I thought I need to do something about this."

Morrice got on the phone to Coral and managed to place the bet on Trump becoming world champion before the age of 30.

However, the gamble looked like it wouldn’t pay off after Trump lost the 2011 final to John Higgins.

With time running out on the wager, this year’s tournament would be the final opportunity for Morrice’s prediction to come to pass.

29-year-old Trump who duly delivered with a stunning display to get his revenge on Higgins with a 18-9 victory at the Crucible in Sheffield.
