Rhys Armstrong says Airdrie’s 2-0 defeat against Queen’s Park needs to be a wake-up call or they’re going to be in deeper trouble in the Championship.

Dom Thomas’ 14th-minute opened and Louis Longridge’s audacious lob from distance had the points wrapped up for the Spiders inside 21 minutes at Hampden on Saturday.

That left the Diamonds rooted to the foot of the league table, 10 points behind Saturday’s opponents Morton and they then host Livingston the following Tuesday, and Partick Thistle on December 21.

Midfielder Armstrong, 22, had hoped the Hampden clash would be the start of a positive run for Airdrie, and reckons they need a win, fast.

He said: “We need to wake up, and we need to wake up quick.

“It’s three massive games. I think it’s a big month for us.

“There are opportunities as well, but we need to grasp it, take it with both hands, hopefully get three points, and build a bit of momentum.

“It’s so frustrating. The lads and me felt that today was a day when we could have turned our season around and went on a run.

“Unfortunately it’s not to be, but we have to try and be positive and look forward to the next game.

“I think they scored the first one and the lads’ heads went down, but it’s not good enough, all over he park, from us.

“Maybe the boys’ confidence has been hit. We trained well, we were trying to implement everything the gaffer was trying to say to us, but unfortunately it didn’t happen and it wasn’t our day again.

“It’s one of those where we need to draw a line under it and move on, but we need to move on quickly, because it’s a big month coming up.

“Hopefully we can turn it around.”
