Radcliffe honours its best achievers with awards

Radcliffe Athletic Club recognised championship winners, high achievers, and outstanding individual contributions over the 2024 race season in their annual awards ceremony on Saturday night.

Trophies were given for the top competitor in each age category across the Trail and Road Championships, Fell Race Championships, and the Cross Country. Awards were also given for exceptional achievements throughout the year.

Club chairperson, Donna Cartwright, said: “The club has had an absolutely outstanding year in 2024 and it was wonderful to bring everybody together to recognise and celebrate one another’s achievements.

“We sold over 30 more tickets from last year which is testament to the community-driven growth our friendly running club has seen over the past 12 months.”

Award winners:

Men’s Trail and Road Club Championship: Andew O’Donnell (Male Senior), Chris Mihalyi (M40), Steven Fawcett (M45), Mark Garner (M50), Mark Williams (M55), Michael Kontowtt (M60), Michael Scott (M65);

Ladies’ Trail and Road Club Championship: Charlotte Holden (Female Senior), Chemane Thomas (F35), Charlene Leyden (F40), Lucy Tetler (F45), Karen Doherty (F50), Paula Abernethy (F55), Kathryn Davies (F60), Sheila Jones (F65);

Fell Race Championship: Neil Greenhalgh (MSEN), Chris Mihalyi (M40), Ian Swan (M45), Mark Garner (M50), Kathryn Davies (F60).

Cross-Country Championship: Mark Garner (M50), Lucie Tighe (F35), Louise Shield (F45), Karen Doherty (F50), Kathryn Davies (F60), Elaine Bailey (F65).

Individual awards:

Nellie Halstead exceptional achievement in competition: Sheila Jones;

Terry Nortley exceptional achievement in competition: Andrew O’Donnell;

Joan West most improved female award: Sara Parry;

Jim Rhodes most improved male award: Wayne Holden;

Eileen Royle most races completed in the club Grand Prix: Brennan Tighe and Dominic Parry - both 22;

Runners’ Runner award: Emma Wolstencroft;

Consistent runner award: Lucy Tighe;

Best newcomer award: Khama Bhanda;

Members’ contribution award: Helen Kay;

President’s Shield outstanding contribution to the club: Ian Swan.
