Raging Man Utd trigger major Rangers investigation as police swarm over 'frightening' Old Trafford incidents

Furious Manchester United have launched an investigation after Rangers fans were able to access tickets in the home end of Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have been left raging and have promised "strictest possible measures" will be imposed on those who sold their briefs to the travelling supporters for the 2-1 defeat of the Ibrox. Videos emerged of Rangers punters taking over the home end before more incidents followed when Cyriel Dessers' levelled in the 88th minute of the Europa League clash. More footage followed of Rangers fans being outed by home supporters with many making their way to the travelling section at the final whistle. And the flashpoints caused acrimony among home supporters as it followed a similar incident against Galatasaray last season where away fans feasted on briefs in the home end.

A club statement read: "In anticipation of the risks around tonight’s game, we took the strictest possible measures to prevent sales to away fans in home areas Tickets were only allocated to people who existed on our database prior to the draw taking place in August. Hospitality tickets had the same restrictions applied. Tickets forwarded by season ticket-holders and members also had the same restrictions applied (i.e. they could only be forwarded to fans on our database prior to the draw).

"Whilst the unauthorised touting of tickets has become more difficult since our introduction of in-app digital ticketing, it cannot be completely eliminated. All examples of away fans in home areas will be investigated over the coming days, with the strongest possible sanctions taken against the registered holders."

And Manchester Evening News chief reporter Samuel Luckhurst expanded on the incidents which had been shared with him. Posting to X, he wrote: "Three messages from three friends here tonight in different areas of the ground: 'Kicked off from every angle immediately after Rangers.' 'Police running around in the concourse of the north stand after the game.' "Saw four get a kicking at HT in the concourse and thrown out."
