Raheem Sterling: Crystal Palace among Premier League clubs to register interest in Chelsea outcast

Crystal Palace are among a number of clubs to express an interest in exploring a deal for Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling.

The Eagles are understood to have expressed their interest in Sterling to Chelsea after being alerted to his availability following his exile from the Blues first-team squad.

Sterling is seeking a move away from Chelsea in the final week of the transfer window and he has put Premier League clubs on alert by indicating he wants to stay in England.

Chelsea are currently collecting information from all the clubs interested in Sterling and will then present them to the player.

Palace lost Michael Olise to Bayern Munich earlier this summer and Sterling would further bolster their forward line following the £12.5million signing of Ismaila Sarr.

Any potential deal for Sterling, whether permanent or on loan, is likely to be complicated.

He has three years left on his contract worth more than £300,000 a week, so it is unlikely another Premier League club will be able to afford a deal for the 29-year-old unless Chelsea subsidise some of his wages or he agrees to take a significant pay cut.

Staying in London is likely to appeal to Sterling, whose family are settled in the capital.

Sterling is considering his options after being frozen out by Chelsea and stripped of his No7 shirt. He has ruled out a big-money transfer to Saudi Arabia and is reluctant to move abroad, believing the Premier League is the best place to resurrect his England career.

Chelsea spent £45m on Sterling two years ago but new Blues head coach Enzo Maresca has told him to leave after making it clear he is not in his plans.
