Rangers B team changes explained as new loans expected
Rangers are set to make major changes to the function of their B team as they seek to bridge the gap from the youth academy to the first-team.
Following a recent internal meeting, members of the club hierarchy have decided that loan deals will now be prioritised over B team matches for players on the fringes of Philippe Clement's squad.
Nils Koppen, the Scottish Premiership club's technical director, believes the current system is flawed, and it is understood he has the backing of CEO Patrick Stewart and first team manager Philippe Clement.
Instead, Koppen wants to see more young academy products progressed to the first team, or sent out on loan.

The decision coincides with Bailey Rice's promotion to the first-team dressing room on a full-time basis, alongside centre-back Clinton Nsiala, who has impressed during his first three professional starts this month.
Goalkeeper Mason Munn has deputised for Liam Kelly on the bench following Jack Butland's injury, while Zak Lovelace was part of the squad during Wednesday's 3-0 win over Aberdeen.
However, it was decided that Robbie Fraser and Cole McKinnon, both 21, would head out on loan for the remainder of the season. The left-back joined Livingston with the midfielder moving to Ayr United, both in the Scottish Championship.
It is understood more loan deals could follow before the end of the January transfer window.
Rangers B used to participate in the Lowland League, before withdrawing their membership ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.
The Ibrox outfit is expected to continue to compete in the Glasgow Cup, a competition they won last month, and the Scottish Challenge Cup, although their squad is likely to comprise more heavily of players from the Under-18s bracket.
