Rangers earn new Hotline nickname after SFA seethe as Ibrox punters branded hypocrites

It might be the season of goodwill elsewhere but not on the Hotline – where Boxing Day turned into a scrap.

Rangers swung a haymaker with their statement on Christmas Eve blasting the beaks for giving the League Cup Final VAR blunder boys another quick gig. But Celtic fans have been sharp on the counter in a festive war of words. Paul McCormack, Coatbridge, said: “Statement FC at it again regarding reinstatement of the officials. Let it go for God's sake, it was a poor decision but no amount of bleating is going to change the outcome. Do they want the officials banished, never to be seen again? If only they got points for statements, they'd be out of sight in all competitions.”

Scott McAdam Glasgow, said: “These deluded Rangers fans have enough of a brass neck to go to a scrapyard. Have they just arrived on planet earth 6month ago. For the last 25 years at least they had Jim Farry and his SFA gang in their pockets, not to mention. “They cheated their way to titles and trophies while shaming Scottish football.”

Bill Lockerbie, Northampton, said: “I'm betting the enterprising Patrick Stewart is delighted to be spending all his time on a penalty that never was, deflecting from the real issues on the starship Rangers.

"Yet the more he complains the more his crew are reminded who won the trophy. You might live long, but you'll never prosper.”

Mark McManus, Purley, said: “So, Rangers are again writing to SFA as they are not happy with the fact officials involved in the League Cup non-penalty are again involved in matches, subtly suggesting cheating going on, as one is involved in a future Celtic game. It tickles me they go on about cheating when the club this company previously ran cheated Scottish football for a decade and blamed everybody else for their demise when the cheating was discovered. Serial losers again pulling the victim card.”

Brian McColligan emailed: “Who do Rangers think they are trying to dictate to the SFA how to administer punishment? Surely those days are long gone? Move on.”

Glen Mitchell, via email, said: “Another statement from the Ibrox club. It’s as if they have never had anything go their way, like Goldson playing basketball (more than once) and a player openly assaulting Scott Brown in front of the referee. In this match, Jefte and Leon Balogun were given licence to boot lumps out of their opponents while Robin Propper could pull shirts in the Celtic penalty area without any action being taken.”

Eddie Easson, Ballingry, said: “Rangers have sent another letter to the blazers with another complaint. Meanwhile Celtic play their first Boxing Day game at home since 2011. Maybe they should get down the post office for some stamps.”

Meanwhile the Old Firm trophy count fight goes on. Jimmy Mac, Glasgow, said: “I want to remind Celtic fans that every Rangers title – 55 – of them were won against Celtic – unlike their claimed 54 titles, one of which was gifted while every other league was declared null and void. Four their titles were not won against Rangers because we all know Celtic created a witch hunt to have Rangers kicked out of the league so they could claim unchallenged tainted titles.”

Finally, some actually football chat, and Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, said: “I read that Celtic are bracing themselves for a possible ten million bid for Kyogo. But if Adam Idah is valued at £9.5m then the finest striker since Henrik Larsson is worth double. I fear if he leaves his Japanese team mate’s could follow.”
