Mason Munn paid a special tribute to his family after realising his boyhood dream on Sunday. The 18-year-old Northern Ireland goalkeeper made his debut for Rangers in their 5-0 Scottish Cup win over Fraserburgh.

It was a proud moment for the former Glentoran youngster who has been on the fringes of Philippe Clement's side this season. Munn was on the bench for the previous five Scottish Premiership games following an injury to Jack Butland.

But Clement notified the talented shot-stopper on Saturday that he would be starting between the posts on Sunday, and Munn impressed in the rout of the Highland League underdogs.

Munn - whose father Jon Munn played for and captained Amateur League side Abbey Villa before going on to become a successful coach - told Rangers' social media channels: "It was an amazing moment for me and my family who were here today to witness it. Just all the things they've done for me getting here, they deserve a special mention.

"I am proud of myself in making my debut. The manager showed trust in me which is amazing. It is an endless thank-you to him for that.

"It was a good day. There are definitely things I can improve on, but I am still learning. I am still only 18."

Northern Ireland Under 19 international Munn discovered on Saturday that he would be starting Sunday's Scottish Cup tie.

He added: "Obviously it was a tough one during the week because Jack (Butland) is is just back from injury so we were unsure, and Liam (Kelly) is playing very well. So I wasn't sure if I would be playing or not.

"Then I found out yesterday in training. It was an amazing moment and I just got myself ready for today.

"Yes, there were nerves. This is my boyhood club and there were always going to be nerves. I just tried blocking it all out and play my own game and know that I am here for a reason."
