Rangers plot exit route to swerve Storm Eowyn as rail chiefs send vital weather warning to fans in Manchester
Rangers boss Philippe Clement and his squad will escape flying into the eye of Storm Eowyn after making plans to avoid the worst of the weather chaos.
The Ibrox squad have travelled south for tonight’s glamour Europa League clash with Manchester United. But the Old Trafford showdown with Ruben Amorim’s Red Devils comes just hours before powerful gusts are set to batter Scotland and the north of England.
Met Office bosses have issued a rare Red Weather warning, advising people not to travel as potential 100mph gusts could poses a risk to life. But Rangers chiefs hope to have Clement and his team tucked up safely at home long before the worst of the weather hits Glasgow at around 10am tomorrow morning. They will head straight for Manchester Airport following Clement’s post-match media duties, with the club’s chartered 40-minute flight back to Scotland scheduled to take off at midnight.

However, while their team should avoid disruption, the same can not be said for the 3,700 Gers fans with tickets for the Theatre of Dreams. They’ve been left scrambling to make alternative arrangements after a string of train services heading back north of the border for Friday were cancelled.
Rail chiefs are advising fans trapped in Manchester to book extra overnight stays into Saturday, with tickets for cancelled trains valid now until Tuesday.
