Rangers takeover has Celtic camp terrified as Hotline says no way Jose to Mourinho managing in Glasgow

Hotline callers have laughed off the prospect of Jose Mourinho ever managing either side of the Old Firm.

Ahead of Fenerbahce's Europa League showdown with Rangers on Thursday, the three-time Premier League and two-time Champions League winner was asked if he would ever consider taking on the top job at either Celtic or the Gers. And while the 'Special One' insists he is very happy in his current role in Istanbul, the Portuguese coach would not rule out a move to Glasgow in the future.

But callers on the Hotline see it as nothing more than a fantasy. Paul McCormack, Coatbridge, wrote: "Mourinho talking about the passion of Glasgow interesting him as a manager of one of the big two in the future. Not for me, that's the equivalent of Dion Dublin or Ian Wright topping up their pension pots when they are well past their best. No way Jose...."

Jack Armstrong, Bathgate, went one step further to poke fun at Rangers - who have also been linked with a sensational managerial swoop for Rafael Benitez - after they announced their season tickets have gone on sale for next season. He said: "Roll up roll up, get your season ticket here. Benitez or Mourinho on the way and (Kylian) Mbappe and (Harry) Kane could follow. Hurry hurry jump on the delusion train get your season ticket now."

But with the 49ers Enterprises consortium closing in on their blockbuster takeover at Ibrox, there is cause for optimism amongst Rangers fans. And callers reckon that Celtic diehard Gordon Ashley is fearful of a Light Blues resurgence. George Wilson, West Sussex, wrote: "Day after day Gordon Ashley tells us Celtic are out of sight and Rangers are irrelevant and no threat any more. Day after day he is on here and the only thing he ever talks about is Rangers.

"The Celtic camp are terrified a takeover will bring a resurgent Rangers and end Celtic’s present period of dominance. Historically it’s turnabout with these two, so Rangers will inevitably return to the top at some point soon."

Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, added: "The Ayr Accountant Gordon Ashley needs to stop worrying about the accounts of Rangers. I know that he likes big numbers so perhaps he can watch a recording of Celtic's recent match with Borussia Dortmund."

However, Frank Jackson isn't so excited about matters on and off the pitch at Rangers and insists he won't be back next season if there is not immediate improvement. He wrote: "What a mess this club is in, As supposedly the second best club in the country it is a shambles. Ferguson and his three coaches being “Rangers” men, WHAT the Sam Henry does that mean?

"They are a laughing stock. As for those that employed them. There are no words. Now to compound the situation wee Slippy G wants to return. God forbid. I am finished for this season. If there are no significant changes by the start of next season forget my hard earned cash."

Elsewhere, Celtic supporter Peter Lyons, Blantyre, has paid a poignant tribute to the Rangers fan who was sadly killed in a road traffic accident in Istanbul on Wednesday night. He said: "My thoughts and prayers go out to the Rangers fan who has been killed in Turkey. Irrespective of our rivalry my heart goes out to this Rangers fans' family. RIEP."
