Rangers vs Celtic weather forecast as Glasgow hit with wind and snow warnings over New Year
Scotland's main Hogmanay event may have been axed due to wild weather.
But there will be a thunderous noise at Ibrox on Thursday - with Rangers vs Celtic NOT currently at risk of postponement. Hogmanay Street Party bosses announced on Monday that it was unsafe to run the world-famous bash in Edinburgh as high winds and torrential rain battered the capital - leaving 45,000 revellers devastated.
A yellow weather warning for rain, wind and snow is in place until 11.59pm on New Year's Eve for southern Scotland, including Glasgow. And the Met Office is warning of significant travel disruption for most of the country, with difficult driving conditions expected as well as flooding and power cuts.
Yet while Edinburgh party-goers will have to change their plans to welcome in 2025 in style, Philippe Clement and Brendan Rodgers will still have the chance to kick off the New Year with a bang when Glasgow's big two collide at Ibrox on January 2.
Snow is expected to cover the city on Wednesday, with a further yellow alert expected to come into force at 9am. And while the horrendous condition will continue to cause havoc between now and then, the skies are set to clear for the Ne'er Day derby at Ibrox.
The weather forecast shows a sunny outlook for Thursday, although the mild temperatures Glaswegians are currently enjoying — with highs of 10°C on Monday and Tuesday — will give way to cooler temperatures and could even drop below freezing come the 3pm kick-off.
However, there will be a fiery atmosphere inside Ibrox as 50,000 fans pack into the Govan stadium for the second Old Firm league fixture of the campaign. Gers are currently 14 points adrift of their Treble-chasing rivals, who haven't lost a Glasgow derby since the Light Blues ran out 3-0 winners in May 2023, albeit Celts had already been crowned champions.
