Aston Villa are two wins away from Wembley after beating Tottenham Hotspur in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Jacob Ramsey gave Unai Emery’s side a lead inside the first 57 seconds of the game on Sunday night as Spurs goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky failed to deal with his shot on goal. Morgan Rogers, who assisted Ramsey, then doubled Villa’s lead just after the hour mark by converting from close range following Donyell Malen’s ball across the box.

Mathys Tel halved Spurs’ deficit in the first minute of five added minutes at the end of the second half, but Villa held on to secure their passage to the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time in a decade.

Here are the talking points from Villa's win over Spurs...

Rashford and Asensio's stardust completes impressive performance

Villa should have been out of sight before the break, but they only had Ramsey’s early opener to show for their dominance. Leon Bailey enjoyed one of his best halves of football for a long time and forced Kinsky into a few smart saves.

Ramsey hit the post from a tight angle, while Donyell Malen also found space in the box to get shots off. Down the other end, Spurs only had one chance in the first half as Son Heung-min was denied by a brilliant save from Emi Martinez.

Villa lost some control after Ezri Konsa came off injured halfway through the first period, so it was crucial they extended their lead when they did - in the 66th minute through Rogers.

Then, Emery introduced Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio into the action. It was a sprinkling of stardust in a cauldron which can be conducive to a little magic under the lights.

Rashford’s first touch was to climb over 6’3” Kevin Danso and bring the ball down with a header, which fell to the dazzling feet of Marco Asensio, who performed a roulette to spin out of danger. Inside 60 seconds of their debuts, the pair had Villa fans excited for more.

In the 70th minute, Asensio plucked the ball out of the sky and back-heeled it to Rogers, who combined with the Spaniard before slamming the ball into the side-netting. It would have been a special goal to wrap up the cup tie.

Four minutes after Asensio’s brilliance, Rashford showed more confidence and positivity on the ball when he squared Pedro Porro up, slipped the ball through his legs and collected it on the other side before appearing to be fouled when entering the box.

Rashford thrives in transition and had a decent chance to open his account on his debut when he ran at Archie Gray inside the box, but a heavy touch invited the defender into making a tackle.

Rogers and Ramsey agree on fresh competition

Jacob Ramsey and Leon Bailey, who started on the flanks either side of Morgan Rogers, were excellent before the introductions of Rashford and Asensio. Ramsey stayed on for the full 90 minutes, while Bailey came off after Rogers’ goal.

After opening the scoring, Ramsey continued to threaten Tottenham with his clever movement and devastating combination play as he came in off the wing. Ramsey had plenty of chances to score a few goals on the night, but Kinsky foiled him a few times.

Bailey, meanwhile, showed that he is willing to fight for his place in the team by looking lively in the first hour of the match. It was more like what we saw from last season.

Rogers and Ramsey spoke to the BBC after full-time and spoke about the importance of competition in the team.

"It pushes us along, we want to take what we can from the experienced players in the squad,” Rogers said. “It's massive to have people like that in the building and hopefully we can just push each other."

Ramsey added: "I think it's probably one of the best squads we have had. We have got experience with [Marcus] Rashford and [Marco] Asensio coming on and Donyell Malen starting. The squad depth is unbelievable. The starting players have got to raise their game now because the players coming on are a big threat."

"I don't think I have been in an FA Cup fifth round for a long, long while,” he continued. “I've been in the first team for four or five years and we have been getting knocked out in the first or second game. So, we wanted to put on a performance for the fans and we did that today."

Bogarde and Garcia play their part

Villa’s defensive crisis worsened on Sunday as Konsa became the latest player to suffer an injury. After chasing back, the center-back pulled up due to a suspected muscle injury.

Beating the ground before receiving treatment, Konsa was replaced by Lamare Bogarde. The 21-year-old filled in at right center-back alongside Boubacar Kamara.

He made an excellent block to deny Son early in the second half and didn’t put a foot wrong. Andres Garcia, who made his full home debut on Sunday, made up an inexperienced right side of defence, but like Bogarde, he held his own.

Garcia was replaced at half-time in the defeat at Wolves in the previous game, but he proved a point in front of his new fans against Spurs. Confident yet secure in possession, Garcia also defended well with Tottenham’s attackers having little joy on the flanks.

New loan signing Axel Disasi is expected to make his debut against Ipswich Town this Saturday, while Tyrone Mings could return from injury this weekend.

FA Cup opportunity knocks

The draw for the FA Cup fifth round will be made live on the BBC's ‘The One Show’ on Monday 10 February. Taking place at around 7.10pm GMT, the draw will be presented by Kelly Somers with former England and Arsenal players Alex Scott and Theo Walcott drawing the balls out.

Here are the remaining clubs in the competition…

Premier League: Villa, Man City, Newcastle, Bournemouth, Fulham, Brighton, Man United, Wolves, Ipswich.

Championship: Burnley, Millwall, Preston, Cardiff, Plymouth Argyle.

Still to play: Doncaster/Crystal Palace, Exeter/Nottingham Forest.

Villa will back themselves to beat any of those teams at home. Following the exits of Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea, Emery’s side have got a great chance of going far this season.
