Rasmus Hojlund claims that he will be a proven goal-scorer for Manchester United despite the club being linked with two elite-level strikers.

The 21-year-old from Denmark has shown promise since making the move to Old Trafford from Atalanta in the summer of 2023, finding the back of the net 10 times in 30 appearances last season. But while the youngster has impressed in the Europa League in the current campaign, with five goals from six games, he has struggled to find his footing in the Premier League.

With just two goals in 15 appearances, Man United are evidently lacking a proven goal-scorer in their number nine role - as they languish in 13th with six wins, five draws and nine losses to their name. Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford are currently the club's leading scorers this season, each netting four times in the English top flight.

However, Hojlund believes that he can go on to become prolific in front of goal given the time and opportunity. When asked by the United Stand if he can be the starting number nine that Ruben Amorim desperately needs, Hojlund replied: "Yeah, I think so. I think I showed last season with being top scorer for the team that I can score my goals.

"I am still very young but obviously I would like to take the responsibility and that's why I also took the number nine this year, because I think I want to take the next level, the next step. I've still a lot to go, I'm still not the finished article, I'm only 21." When asked if he believes Amorim's system provides him more support, Hojlund added: "I don't know, we will see."

Despite a 2-2 draw with league leaders and fierce rivals Liverpool in their most recent outing, United have only managed one win from their last five games. And with the January transfer window in bloom, the Red Devils have been linked with a couple of high-level strikers to help strengthen their squad.

United have firstly been linked with a move for Galatasaray's Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian striker is currently enjoying a loan spell in the Turkish Super-Lig from his parent club, Napoli. However, there is reportedly a break clause in his agreement, which enables his loan to be terminated prematurely should a club make a suitable offer for a permanent deal.

Business Day report that United and Osimhen are both interested in bringing a deal to fruition, however, a move will not come cheap. The 26-year-old still has over a year left on his current contract with Napoli, and holds a £75m release clause. The star striker has scored 10 goals and bagged three assists for Galatasaray this season so far, while also impressing in the Europa League.

Elsewhere, United are also said to have shown an interest in Paris Saint-Germain's Randal Kolo Muani. The Athletic report that the Red Devils, as well as Spurs and Juventus, are interested in exploring a loan deal for the striker - who has failed to impress at the Pac de Princes since his £77m move from Eintracht Frankfurt in September 2023.

The 26-year-old has scored on just two occasions across 14 appearances for PSG this season, and a change of scenery could bring out the best in the Nantes academy graduate.
