Reading boss calls on squad to 'give a good account of ourselves' in Burnley cup tie
Reading boss Noel Hunt has hinted that he is going to name a strong side on tomorrow's FA Cup third round tie with Burnley, calling on his squad to 'give a good account of yourselves.'
Scott Parker's Clarets sit second in the Championship, chasing down an immediate return to the Premier League after last year's relegation.
Fresh from beating local rivals Blackburn Rovers 1-0 on Saturday, it remains to be seen how strong former England midfielder Parker opts to go while chasing down promtoion.
However, the Royals sit sixth in League One and are looking toward the top of the table themselves, but Hunt is looking to put his 'best foot forward.'
"We have to take each game as it comes," he told the media in the build-up. "It’s the next one that we have to perform in and try to get a result. We’re at home so it’s all about the mindset of us and what we do.
"For me, you want to give a good account of yourselves first and foremost and then the performance kicks in and the result takes care of itself. It’s important that we give a good account of ourselves, do what we do and see what happens."
Speaking more generally in terms of squad selection, while missing eight first-team regulars to injury, Hunt added: "It’s a different vessel than the Harborough’s and whatnot. Burnley are a good side and it is good for us to get out there and keep the rhythm going and put out our best 11 at this moment in time. That involves a lot of the younger ones because we have injuries. We go with our best foot forward."
To reach the third round, Reading knocked out Fleetwood Town and Harborough Town in round one and two.
As a player for the club, Hunt reached successive FA Cup quarter-finals in 2010 and 2011, as well as winning the Championship in 2012.
