Reading confirm appointment of Academy roles to replace Hunt and Leigertwood
Reading have confirmed the appointments of Peter Scott and Harrison Gilkes as Head Coaches of the Under-21 and Under-18 sides respectively.
The Royals' much-loved Academy, which has been among the country's elite for over 15 years, took a blow last month as club legends Noel Hunt and Mikele Leigertwood took up roles with the first team.
Hunt, now the first-team manager, took former teammate and 2012 Championship-winner Leigertwood with him as Assistant Coach in the first-team.
Scott, who has been with the club for over two decades, was Hunt's assistant with the Under-21s and now takes up the reins himself.
Gilkes, son of club legend and Academy chief Michael, has been working alongside Leigertwood in the Under-18s for over five years and has a bright future in coaching.
Academy Manager Gilkes said: “We are delighted both Peter and Harrison have agreed to take over the roles leading our Under 21 and Under 18 teams.
Peter has been a mainstay in our Academy for over 25 years, and recently worked alongside Noel in the Under 21 side that performed so well in 2023/24 – many of the players having now become established First Team regulars this campaign.
Harrison has worked within the Academy for over five years and exemplifies the fabric of what we want to produce in not just our players, but our staff members too. He will build on the fantastic foundation created by Mikele as we continue forging the pathway to success for our players.”
