Former Cambridge United forwards Harvey Knibbs and Sam Smith returned to the Abbey Stadium on New Year's Day in a 3-1 win for Reading.

Take a look below at our ratings.

Joel Pereira, 6: The popular goalkeeper rounded off an impressive festive period with another solid display at Cambridge. Forced into some big saves, the shot stopper could do little with the U's equaliser but kept the Royals in the game for long spells.

Louie Holzman, 5: Still young and playing out of position, the defender endured a really tough first-half in which he was targeted throughout. However, the Academy graduate did enjoy an improvement after the break and earned an assist for Knibbs' opener.

Harlee Dean, 7: The experienced defender has endured a difficult period in Berkshire, having been left out for the vast majority of Ruben Selles' time in charge. However, required to step in at late notice after Amadou Mbengue's bout of illness, the former Brentford and Birmingham captain hardly put a foot wrong and was serenaded off the field by the sell-out away end.

Tyler Bindon, 7: Another imperious display from the teenager and put in some huge blocks. There are plenty of whispers and concerns over the youngster's future, but he is not letting them effect his impressive displays.

Andre Garcia, 6: Starting at left-back, the 17-year-old had a tough afternoon as the hosts were very strong down the wings. Moved to the wing for the final half-hour and enjoyed a much better spell, with the ageing defenders unable to keep up with the teenager.

Lewis Wing, 7: Dropping so deep he was almost a part of the back line, the 29-year-old still had plenty of time to display his impressive passing range and earned a magnificent assist for Smith's stunning strike.

Charlie Savage, 7: Must have covered every inch of grass at least twice, pressing and harassing the Cambridge backline throughout. His mistimed strike fell perfectly for Knibbs to covert to restore the Royals' lead in the second half.

Harvey Knibbs, 7: In the right place at the right time to pick up yet another brace, this one coming at a place he called home for many years. His overall game was as we have become to expect, full of energy and smart flicks to link up well with his winger and full-back.

Mamadi Camara, 6: Drifted in and out of the game, displaying some good touches but also some moments of naivety and lack of physical presence. Had to limp off with a groin issue late on.

Sam Smith, 7: Took his goal expertly for what will surely but a Goal of the Season contender. Had a tough game in general, however, as he was marshalled well by former Reading captain Michael Morrison.

Chem Campbell, 6: A solid display from the winger in what looks to be his penultimate match for the club. Full of tricks and with a burst of pace, the wide-man loved cutting in to overload the middle.

Abraham Kanu, 7: A really strong cameo from the youngster out wide. Making a crucial block within seconds of arriving, the defender looked strong going both forwards and backwards.
