Reading Ratings: Harlee Dean continues to impress despite long wait for gametime
Reading ended their hectic festive schedule with a backs-to-the-wall 0-0 draw at in-form Charlton Athletic on Saturday, leaving the 2,600 travelling supporters more than content with a trip to the capital.
Take a look below at our player ratings.
Joel Pereira, 7: Making some crucial saves, albeit most were down his throat, the keeper commanded his area and gave the defence great confidence. The only wobbly moment saw him fumble a cross, but Harlee Dean was on the line to prevent the ball hitting the back of the net.
Amadou Mbengue, 6: Defensively great to have the 22-year-old back, his pace was vital in covering over the back. Only wary issue was his discipline, with the full-back throwing himself into tackles despite picking up an earlier booking. Having said that, if you take away that element of his game, you take away a large reason of why supporters have taken him to their hearts.
Harlee Dean, 8: Won absolutely everything in the air, constantly spoke to his young backline and was only turned once or twice by his forward. Also prevented a certain goal with his block on the line. To play two 90+ minutes in three days after not starting for over 12 months, the experienced defender can hold his head high.
Tyler Bindon, 7: Similar to Dean in that the youngster won everything aerially. Was embroiled in a battle with Miles Leaburn throughout, which marked both crucial players out of the game for the most part.
Abraham Kanu, 6: A shaky start for the youngster out wide but he certainly grew into the game. From a defensive side, he won everything in the air and put in some big tackles. Side misses an offensive outlet on the left when he starts, but did what he does well.
Lewis Wing, 6: A less individually standout performance to some we have become accustomed to with the captain but he put himself about and won some big tackles.
Charlie Savage, 7: The standout midfielder for Reading- he was absolutely everywhere. Passed up the occasion opportunity to shoot but will be best remembered for the huge tackle he made in the box in stoppage time to deny Tyreece Campbell a chance to shoot.
Harvey Knibbs, 6: By the top scorers' usual standards, Knibbs had a quiet afternoon at the Valley. Put himself about and played some good passes in and around the box. Threaded a great ball for Sam Smith and nearly scored himself were it not for Lloyd Jones' block in the first half.
Andre Garcia, 7: Perhaps the teenagers best performance for Reading. An outlet throughout who took on his opposite number with ease. Much more effective higher up than at full-back.
Sam Smith, 6: A difficult afternoon with few sights at goal. The biggest chance of the game fell to Smith, but the striker could not slot past the keeper from inside the box.
Kelvin Abrefa, 6: A solid shift out of position for the youngster who has been out for months with an injury. Supported his full-back well but was less effective offensively than Garcia.
Substitutes
Ashqar Ahmed, 6: A good cameo from the teenager, who was constantly up and down his wing to make things happen offensively or support defensively.
