Reading Ratings: Royals improve but stung by late Burton Albion winner
Reading dramatically lost their third match in a row, going down 3-2 at struggling Burton Albion with a stoppage time strike for the hosts.
Take a look below at our ratings.
Joel Pereira, 6: Made some good saves and his distribution was more than adequate on the night where his opposite number struggled with the conditions. Could do nothing with the three goals conceded, let down by his defensive line.
Michael Craig, 5: Going forward, the defender looked fine. And, in fairness, as the game wore on he looked comfortable too. However, the full-backs in general were too easy to beat and too many crosses were allowed into the box- the root of the issues on the night.
Tyler Bindon, 5: Not at his usual standards tonight. Slow with the ball at his feet, barring one memorable run out, and his over-eagerness to make up for a lost tackle left space for Ru Burrell to open the scoring inside 10 minutes. Rarely has an off-day so no need to panic, but not his usual level.
Harlee Dean, 6: Made some big tackles and blocks, doing what he needed to do. Passing could do with more progression, the central defenders playing sideways consistently throughout. Arguably scored the equaliser, although Sam Smith prodded it over the line to be sure.
Andre Garcia, 5: Similar to Craig, allowed far too many crosses to beat him and caused carnage in the box for the central defenders. Had little support from his winger, Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan.
Lewis Wing, 5: Another quiet night for the captain, who did improve as the game wore on. His passing was not at the high level we have come to expect from the 29-year-old. Still looks uncomfortable sat so deep.
Charlie Savage, 6: Ran incredibly hard and had two or three chances narrowly fly wide. Looking to impress with his family up in the stands, his engine ensured the Royals carried a threat throughout.
Harvey Knibbs, 6: Much more involved than he was on Saturday and had plenty of good link-up play with Chem Campbell and Sam Smith. Had penalty appeals waved away.
Chem Campbell, 6: One of Reading's better players, particularly in the second half when we switched sides. Hit the crossbar with a header and ran his defender ragged. Not back to his best but a big improvement on Saturday.
Sam Smith, 6: Another difficult night as he was consistently man-handled by Ryan Sweeney at the back. Another match where, as the striker, he saw little sight of goal other than a tap-in on the goalline, which may or may not go down as Dean's goal.
Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan, 5: His first start in three months and it showed. Improved as the game wore on, ironically, and looked more sluggish in the first half. Will be a key player for the Royals as his recovery continues.
Substitutes
Kelvin Abrefa, 6: Solid enough the gap left on his side allowed Burrell to sneak in unmarked to score the late winner.
Mamadi Camara, 6: A good cameo from the midfielder, who tenaciously won the ball well for the first Royals goal.
