Reading sell-out initial allocation for Charlton as thousands descend on capital
Over 2,500 Reading supporters are to be descending on London tomorrow as the initial allocation for Charlton Athletic sells out.
Always a popular away day with its deep stand behind the goal, last year's 4-0 defeat at the Valley was the largest away turnout for the Royals last season (2,518).
That feat looks set to be repeated this time around as the initial, advanced allocation of 2,510 officially sold out on Thursday.
Another 600 tickets have been made available to Royals fans, which can be purchased from the ground at the gate, taking a total possible allocation to over 3,100.
Reading last won at the Valley in 2020 behind-closed-doors, while over 3,000 Reading fans were in the ground for a dramatic 4-3 victory for Brian McDermott's Royals back in 2016- with Deniss Rakels scoring a stoppage-time winner in front of the travelling supporters.
Reading took over 1,000 to Cambridge United on New Year's Day- selling out the allocation- and were rewarded with a third away victory of the season, winning 3-1.
Leyton Orient host the Royals on January 25, meaning both London away trips come and go in the space of a month.
More than 1,700 travelled to Birmingham City on the opening day while the previous season-high was 1,843 at Wycombe Wanderers.
