Reading captain Andy Yiadom stepped up his recovery from long-term injury with match-day involvement for the first time in over 300 days.

The 33-year-old has over 200 Royals appearances to his name since arriving in 2018 but after limping off against Bristol Rovers in April 2024, the right-back began a long road to recovery.

However, after almost 12 months on the side-lines, the skipper returned to the field at Aston Villa's Bodymoor Heath training ground on Friday for a PL2 fixture against the Villains.

Peter Scott's Royals earned a 3-1 victory in the Midlands, with fellow returning injured first-team regular, Adrian Akande, finding the net.

Tyler Sackey and Ashqar Ahmed also scored and Yiadom played 27 minutes off the bench.

Speaking the following day after the first-team drew 0-0 at Huddersfield Town, manager Noel Hunt admits that there is still 'a little bit' to go in Yiadom's recovery but he aims to get the former Player of the Season involved as soon as possible.

"It’s good. They have a little bit to go, the both of them, but keep building their minutes and hopefully we get them back involved with us as soon as we can."

Reading Under-21s travel to Bracknell Town on Wednesday in the quarter-final of the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup, looking to defend their title.
