Reading manager Noel Hunt has confirmed that the club are 'in talks' with Wolves and the EFL over extending the loan deal of winger Chem Campbell.

The 21-year-old has scored five goals so far this season but he is set to return to Molineux this week as his short-term loan deal expires.

However, with a threadbare squad and the fact that he has always spent the first half of the season with the Royals, there are hopes that the former Wales youngster can stay until the end of the season.

Speaking to the media after Saturday's 0-0 draw at Charlton Athletic, which Campbell missed through injury, Hunt said: "We want him back. He wants to stay, and we want him here. He is a part of us and our family. The boys love him, and I love him. He is one of us and has an amazing, infectious personality. He is someone you want around the club, and we are in talks to get things done. He took a knock and wouldn’t have been fit anyway, even though he wanted to train yesterday, but it doesn’t look too bad so hopefully it’s a week or two.

"He has already been with us so we’re just trying to keep him here. We hope that is the case. We have been in contact- Brian Carey and the people at the club- have all been in contact with the EFL to make sure we get the stipulations right. We want to do everything right and we are working to get things sorted."

Still under an EFL embargo for failing to submit financial accounts, it is unlikely that the club will be made to make any fresh additions to the squad for the time being.

After a hectic festive schedule, the Royals now return to FA Cup action on Saturday as Championship high fliers Burnley visit Berkshire in Round Three.
