Reading Women moved off the foot of the Southern Region Women's Football League Premier Division with their first league win of the campaign on Sunday.

A Women's Super League outfit as recently as 2023, the side struggled in the Championship last year as semi-professional but are now amateur after being dropped by the club and taken over by the Community Trust.

Until last week, Pedro Bruno's side sat bottom of the division without a point, but on Sunday the Royals beat winless Selsey 2-1 at Arbour Park to leapfrog their opponents in the table.

Captain Lucy Bolitho scored both goals either side of half-time in what was a strong performance.

Reading had fallen behind in the opening 15 minutes but rallied well and deservedly came out on top, moving up to eighth ahead of both Selsey and Badshot Lea who have two points from 11 and 12 games respectively.

Reading travel to mid-table Sholing on Sunday in the League Cup, kicking off at 2.30pm at Oasis Academy Mayfield.

They host Sholing in a league fixture just one week later, looking to move further up the division and continue their strong start to 2025.
