Real Betis head coach Manuel Pellegrini is backing Manchester United winger Antony to make his mark in Seville after he made his debut in Sunday evening's 2-2 draw with Athletic Bilbao.

Antony joined the Spanish club on loan for the remainder of the season a little over a week ago after struggling to nail down a starting spot at Old Trafford.

The Brazilian played 72 minutes, having a positive impact on the game. He completed 83 per cent of his 24 attempted passes and produced two key passes.

Antony was signed by United in September 2022 and former City boss Pellegrini has said he does not necessarily believe the winger has to be constantly showing off his tricks and flicks.

He said: "Well, I think it was a very positive debut. He's a quality player.

"I was talking to him just before the game. I think a good player doesn't have to be constantly showing off his skills with the ball. He has to play a good game, make few mistakes and do two or three important things: a goal, a good pass, a good cross.

"I think he was very involved today, especially with the second goal. He had just arrived a couple of days before and I think he's going to contribute a lot to us."

Antony was awarded the MVP (Most Valuable Player) award following the full-time whistle in recognition of his performance. He could make his second appearance for Betis when they face Celta Vigo on Saturday lunchtime.
