Real Madrid is reportedly ready to make a second approach to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold during the January transfer window.

It is no secret that Madrid has made Alexander-Arnold a top target in 2025, with Liverpool in a weak position regarding the right-back's future considering his contract at Anfield expires at the end of June.

Alexander-Arnold has been free to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs since New Year's Day but his situation remains unresolved.

Despite being able to sign the England international for free next summer, Madrid approached Liverpool earlier this month about the possibility of signing Alexander-Arnold for a fee during the January transfer window.

Madrid has suffered a host of defensive injuries this season, with Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, and David Alaba all nursing serious knee problems.

The 33-year-old Lucas Vazquez, a natural right-winger, has been filling in at right-back in Carvajal's absence, and Madrid is clearly keen to address that area of the pitch this month by bringing Alexander-Arnold in for the second half of the season.

In the unlikely event that Liverpool allows Alexander-Arnold to leave this month, he would not be eligible to play for Madrid in Europe having already turned out for the Reds in the Champions League.

Marca reports that conversations have taken place at Madrid's Valdebebas training base in recent days and that the decision has been taken that a fresh approach to sign Alexander-Arnold this month should be made.

It is claimed that Liverpool has known since mid-December that Alexander-Arnold will leave the club this year, and it is now just a case of whether he can convince the Reds to let him leave this month or if he will end up moving to Madrid in the summer.
