Real Madrid's Lucas Vazquez has refused to be drawn into the discussion around Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving Liverpool for the Spanish capital. He did so while admitting he 'can't say more' about what is going to happen next season.

Liverpool's protracted negotiations with Alexander-Arnold over signing a new contract before his deal expires in the summer opened the door for Real to make an approach over a January deal involving a fee taking place. The Reds flat-out rejected it.

Prior to that, speculation heightened around the time the two clubs played one another in the Champions League at Anfield. At that time Jude Bellingham refused to be drawn into the discussion out of respect for his fellow England international.

Now in the aftermath of the New Years' Eve approach, winger-turned-full-back Vazquez has been asked about the possibility of Alexander-Arnold's arrival from Liverpool - either this month or for free ahead of next season.

"You're asking about a player who isn't at Madrid and that's something I can't answer," he said via Marca, speaking in Saudi Arabia ahead of his team's Supercopa semi-final vs Mallorca.

Vazquez, a right-back whose position Alexander-Arnold would likely take if he signs for Real, himself does not even know if he will be at the Bernabeu beyond the end of the current season. At 33, he is yet to renew his expiring contract much like Alexander-Arnold.

"It's too early to know what will happen, but I'm enjoying this season. We'll see what happens next, I can't tell you more," he commented on his own situation.

Spanish media have insisted that the Reds' vice captain has committed his future to Real, however the ECHO understands Alexander-Arnold has never communicated this to his current club.
