Record breaker Drew Brees plays near perfect game as Saints demolish Colts

In the NFL’s primetime slot, veteran Drew Brees put on a masterclass, breaking three records in the process.

Brees’ New Orleans Saints demolished the Indianapolis Colts 34-7 on Monday Night Football, with smashing records for touchdown passes and completion percentages in the process.

The Colts had no answer to the 40-year-old as he completed 29 out of 30 passes to give him a pass percentage of 96.7% (beating Philip Rivers’ record of 96.6%), and throwing four touchdown passes, which took his career total to 541, beyond Peyton Manning’s previous record of 539.

Brees also completed 22 passes in a row, another record, while along the way, wide receiver Michael Thomas set a record for franchise catches in a season, with the wideout now on 125 this campaign.

Speaking after the game, Brees said: "It was special, everything about the night. It makes you shake your head. I'm not sure how we got here. It makes your whole life and career flash before your eyes because I never thought I would have the chance to be a part of something like this."

The Saints were pretty much perfect all night, with the Colts only score coming towards the end of the game when the score was 34-0.

New Orleans still have a chance to grab the number one seed in the NFC. They sit atop the NFC South, with an 11-3 record – the same as the Packers, the 49ers and the Seahawks – with just two left to play in the regular season.
