Crack Australian sprinter Redkirk Warrior is expected to clash with Sands Of Mali in the Darley July Cup after both David Hayes and Richard Fahey confirmed their well-being following Royal Ascot.

Redkirk Warrior was unplaced and tailed home 12 lengths behind Merchant Navy in Saturday’s Diamond Jubilee, and while quick to deflect any blame from Frankie Dettori, Hayes hinted that the seven-year-old will have a change of rider for the Group 1 clash on Saturday, July 14.

“We were really disappointed by the run,” said Hayes. “History tells us that he’s let us down very few times but every time he’s travelled he’s never run to his best so there was always that nagging doubt in the back of our minds.

“Looking forward, Newmarket is where he’s trained, he doesn’t have to travel and he worked very well on the course proper there so we think that we’re here, we might give him one more chance [in the July Cup].”

He added: “Frankie rode the horse perfectly, there are no complaints about Frankie [but] we may have a change of rider because he didn’t run for him.”

Three-year-old Sands Of Mali was beaten just under half a length in the Commonwealth Cup on Friday, and Fahey stated that he may take his place against the older sprinters in the Darley July Cup, for which he was installed at 12/1 by Genting Bet.

Sands Of Mail was a little unlucky to be drawn away from the main protagonists at Royal Ascot, yet while he comfortably saw off his rivals on the stands’ side, he could not reel in the winner Eqtidaar.

Fahey confirmed: “It was a good run. He’ll have learned a bit from it, hopefully, and we’re going the right way. We do like him a lot. I liked the way he went through the race and once he got his head dropped and relaxed he came home. He wasn’t stopping so we might step him up in trip in time.

“The plan would be to look at the July Cup and the Prix Maurice de Gheest. There are plenty of options for him. He’s a talented horse.”

Newbury stages it inaugural gin festival on Tuesday evening. There will be a chance to sample 30 different types of gin, and there is also live music. The first race is at 5.35pm with a race for purebred Arabians.

The feature race is the 1m4f Pegasus Pumps Ltd Handicap (7.40pm). Five runners go to post for the 1m4f event and Guns Of Leros is bidding for his second victory of the season after making all in a 10f handicap at Newmarket last month on his first run for 588 days.

Peter Hedger saddles C’Est No Mour, who has bottom-weight, on the back of a second-placed effort at Windsor. The five-year-old son of Champs Elysses enjoyed a tremendous 2017, winning four times, including back-to-back victories over 1m4f at Epsom.

Hedger said today: “C’Est No Mour is in good form at home. He has taken a while to get going this season as he was gelded through the winter and I felt he just took a while to adjust.

“I was very pleased with his run at Windsor last time, where he made up plenty of ground late on to finish second.

“He really likes good to firm ground and we are set to get that tomorrow, so we are hopeful. Tom Marquand gets on well with him too.

“The Gary Moore horse could go out in front and, if he sets a fast pace, that would really suit us as C’Est No Mour will be staying on at the finish.

“I think a lot of this horse and I’m hopeful about his chances.

“C’Est No Mour could do with going up a few pounds as I think he could be an Ebor horse. He excels over 12 furlongs and I think he could step up to 1m 6f for that race as he finishes his races strongly.

“He probably needs to win two more races in order to get in to the Ebor, so we’re hopeful and we’ll see how he gets on.”

The line-up also features Teodoro, who also racked up four successes in 2017. Tuff Rock is having his first start for Newmarket trainer David Simcock, while the JP McManus-owned Travertine is returning to the Flat after finishing third over hurdles at Ffos Las.

Elsewhere on the card, a couple of two-year-olds with eye-catching pedigrees make their debuts in the 7f Gigaclear Full Fibre Broadband Fillies’ Novice Stakes (7.10pm).

Embrace The Moment is from the family of French Derby hero Hernando, while the dam of Spanish Aria is a half-sister to Mukhadram, winner of the Eclipse in 2014.
