Reece James is rueing Chelsea's missed opportunities in the first-half as the Blues extended their winless run in the Premier League to five matches.

Chelsea took the lead on 13 minutes with a wonderful goal from Cole Palmer after some fine work from Nicolas Jackson. However, despite a host of opportunities, the hosts failed to double their lead at Stamford Bridge.

In the second-half, Bournemouth fought back. Justin Kluivert scored from the penalty spot after Moises Caicedo fouled Antoine Semenyo in the box. Semenyo then put the Cherries ahead with a pile-driver on 68 minutes and it looked for a while that the visitors were going to hold onto all three points.

However, James was on hand to rescue a point for the Blues. The 25-year-old scored his first competitive goal since October 2022 with a fantastic free-kick from around 25 yards out in the 95th minute.

While he was happy to get back on the score sheet and help his side claim a point, James seemed frustrated that Chelsea did not return to winning ways. Speaking to TNT Sports, the Chelsea captain said: "To be honest, I don't [think a point was fair].

"We had a few clear-cut chances that we should have taken in the first-half and put the game to bed. But if you don't take chances, sometimes that can come back to bite you in the a***."

Pressed on if it was a problem at Chelsea right now, James said: "I think it's across football; it's globally. If you have chances in a game and you don't take them, it could come back to hurt you."

James tucked his free-kick away exceptionally with such pressure on the captain in one of the final opportunities of the game. He admitted after the match that he has missed the feeling of getting on the score sheet after missing so much time through injuries.

"I knew the free-kick was shooting distance. It felt like that side of the goal was open, so I tried to finish it as well as I could.

"There was a period that I was scoring quite frequently but I haven't had that feeling in a quite a long time through injuries and setbacks. I'm happy to be back with the team and happy to get back on the score sheet again and help the team."
