Abu Kamara believes Ruben Selles can be the manager who gets the best out of him at Hull City after a difficult start to life in East Yorkshire.

Kamara endured a frantic deadline day back in the summer when his on-off move to City from their Championship rivals Norwich City finally came off.

Since then, the 21-year-old winger has had a difficult time of it at the MKM Stadium and came in for heavy criticism for his part in Middlesbrough's 93rd minute winning goal on New Year's Day.

That led to a rather bizarre press conference ahead of Saturday's 3-3 with Leeds United, which saw the winger and boss Ruben Selles address the media over that goal, and a subsequent social media post where Kamara congratulated a friend on scoring their first Championship goal.

The 21-year-old responded in blistering fashion, scoring two superb goals to earn his side a deserved point against table-topping Leeds United. He received a standing ovation from a capacity home crowd three days later, a far cry from the jeers against Boro.

Despite what he admits being a difficult start to life at the Tigers, not helped by their ongoing struggles at the wrong end of the Championship table, Kamara has full belief in Selles to get the best out of him and replicate the electric form he showed for Portsmouth last season in helping them secure promotion to the Championship.

"Yes, definitely (a lot has happened since joining the club)," he acknowledged. "There has been a lot that's going on, but I feel like I've got a good support network around me, whether that's in the building or family, my missus at home, so I feel like I'm settling in really well. I've got a house not too long ago, so I'm comfortable here.

"I'm enjoying it. I've played against Ruben's Reading team last year, so I know how he can get a team to operate and to be a part of something under Ruben - the boss - is really good because I feel like he can bring out the best in me and get me firing again.

"Yes, definitely (Ruben can get the best out of him). I just want to keep working hard, keep contributing with goals and assists and hopefully, I’ll be able to repay the boss."
