The Las Vegas Raiders are expected to hire Tampa Bay Buccaneers assistant general manager John Spytek as their general manager, NFL Network reports.

Spytek had been on staff in Tampa Bay for nine seasons, including when Tom Brady was quarterback for the Buccaneers. Brady is a minority owner of the Raiders. Spytek also played a single season of college football at Michigan with Brady as he was a freshman linebacker at Michigan in 1999 when Brady was a senior.

Spytek will replace former general manager Tom Telesco, whom the Raiders fired at the conclusion of the season. He takes over as general manager as the Raiders conduct a search for a new head coach. The Raiders fired former coach Antonio Pierce alongside Telesco.

Spytek spent nine years in Tampa Bay's front office under general manager Jason Licht and helped build the roster around Brady that won the Super Bowl after the 2020 season. He spent the last two seasons as Tampa Bay's assistant general manager. From 2021-22, he was the team's vice president of player personnel. He was previously the director of player personnel after joining the Bucs in 2016.

Spytek has a lengthy history of talent evaluation in the NFL and oversaw Tampa Bay's pro and college scouting departments in his capacity as assistant general manager. Prior to joining the Buccaneers, Spytek worked in various scouting roles for the Eagles, Browns and Broncos from 2006-2015. He was Cleveland's director of college scouting from 2010-12.
