Carlisle United may not have added to their 11 January signings on transfer deadline day…but some of their rivals did.

Here’s a look at some of the last-gasp business done by others in the League Two relegation battle…

MORECAMBE (23rd)

The Shrimps, allowed to bring players in again after financial restrictions were eased late in the window, made a move for Barrow striker Ged Garner on deadline day.

The frontman, who spent the second half of last season with Morecambe, linked up with them again on loan until the end of the season, having scored four goals for Barrow in the first half of this term.

Garner, 26, was unable to feature in Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat at Newport County but could make his second Shrimps debut at Notts County on Saturday.

Derek Adams’ side, who are two points above Carlisle and three from safety, added Garner to a reinforced attack which also saw the arrival of Barnsley’s ex-Barrow frontman Andy Dallas in the final days of the window.

TRANMERE ROVERS (22nd)

Tranmere, whose own boss Nigel Adkins has been under heavy criticism, left it late to make two additions on deadline day – both from Manchester United.

The Wirral club, five points above rock-bottom United, brought in Sam Mather and Louis Jackson to strengthen their struggling squad.

Winger Mather, 20, and Scotland Under-19 centre-back Jackson, 19, both joined on loan until the end of the campaign.

The duo have featured for Man Utd’s Under-21s in Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy. Mather spent time on loan at Rochdale in the National League last season while Jackson is anticipating his first spell of first-team football.

Debuts for the duo could come on Saturday when Tranmere go to Salford City.

ACCRINGTON STANLEY (21st)

There was one piece of deadline-day activity at the Wham Stadium, John Doolan’s side picking up a loan player from a Premier League club.

Joe O’Brien-Whitmarsh headed north from Southampton to spend the rest of the season with John Doolan’s side, who are eight points above United and six above the drop zone.

The 19-year-old is a midfielder who joined Saints from Cork City last January and has featured for the top-flight club’s Under-21s since then.

A Republic of Ireland Under-21 international, O’Brien-Whitmarsh will be hoping to make his EFL debut when Stanley host AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

HARROGATE TOWN (20th)

Simon Weaver’s squad welcomed one new face whilst also seeing another player leave in the final hours of the window.

A key arrival for the Sulphurites was Northampton Town midfielder Ben Fox.

The 27-year-old signed a two-and-a-half year deal as Harrogate’s sixth signing of the window.

Ben Fox (Image: PA)

Former Burton Albion and Grimsby Town man Fox was part of the Cobblers’ League Two promotion side in 2022/23.

He could feature for the first time in Harrogate’s Yorkshire derby with Bradford City at Valley Parade on Saturday, Weaver's side seven points above the relegation zone and nine above the Blues.

Meanwhile, Harrogate allowed attacking midfielder Stephen Duke-McKenna to leave as he joined St Johnstone on loan for the rest of the campaign.

BARROW (19th)

A popular signing made by the Bluebirds on deadline day saw Ben Whitfield return to Holker Street.

The winger, who had left Barrow for Burton Albion in the summer, has rejoined on loan until the end of the season.

Whitfield was a key player as the south Cumbrians just missed out on the play-offs under Pete Wild last term.

The 28-year-old became their last signing of the window and the latest made by new boss Andy Whing.

Whitfield’s second Barrow debut could come when they take on Gillingham at home on Saturday, sitting eight points above the drop zone and ten above Carlisle.

As Whitfield arrived, frontman Ged Garner headed out of the door to link up with Morecambe on loan.
