Richie Myler weighs in on Hull FC's Challenge Cup venue as different locations considered
Hull FC are yet to cement a venue choice for their Challenge Cup third-round tie against York Acorn next month, admitting that other venues in other towns remain a possibility. The Black and Whites have been drawn away against the National Conference League opponent—their first community club opposition since the 1998 season.
However, where the fixture takes place is still a mystery, with the 'stipulations' of York Acorn's Sports and Social Club ground putting doubt on whether or not the North Yorkshire side can host the Black and Whites.
In fact, that has seen venues elsewhere in Yorkshire considered, with York's LNER Stadium, shared by both York City Football Club and York Knights, potentially in action for both clubs during the weekend of February 7-9. Meanwhile, Richie Myler outlined the latest to Hull Live at Hull FC's media day this Monday afternoon, with Acorn's ground needing to pass some criteria to host the fixture.

"It's an interesting one," Myler said. "I love football, and I love the FA Cup, and I love the dream that any team can get to Wembley and any team can play. I think the logistics of it are a little bit different, which we're finding out at the moment about how an amateur team, if we're playing at their ground, and the stipulations that get put on them to fulfil that fixture and play at their ground.
"I'm not sure if that can happen at the moment, so where that fixture gets played at this moment in time, I couldn't tell you. There's talk of it being at Featherstone or Doncaster or somewhere like that."
Myler also added that he doesn't believe the same Challenge Cup format will be used next year, with all 12 Super League opponents drawn away at lower league clubs. Seeded in the draw, the possibility was given to draw Championship, League 1, or community clubs, with local NCL side West Hull drawing St Helens and Southern Conference outfit Wests Warriors drawing Leeds Rhinos.
"The beauty of it is, if you were playing for York Acorn, you'd be loving it, wouldn't you, getting to go up against a Super League side," Myler added. "Anybody playing in those games, I think Eamon McManus (St Helens onwer) mentioned player welfare, but it's not my opinion; someone else has put the game on. Do I think it will happen next year? No. I don't think it will. I think we'll be coming in at round four or round five; that's more of a sensible option, but we are where we are."
