Rio Ferdinand 'holds talks' over senior role at Manchester United
Rio Ferdinand could be set for a sensational return to Manchester United as Sporting Director.
Following the recent appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager on a permanent basis, the Red Devils are also in the process of major restructuring being the scenes.
The Daily Mail reported Tuesday that Ferdinand has held talks with chairman Ed Woodward over the possibility of taking up the role of overseeing football operations at the club.
It could see Ferdinand play a prominent part in transfers and player recruitment, working with his former teammate Solskjaer who he played alongside between 2002 and 2007.
According to the report, Ferdinand is said to have a good relationship with the Glazer family who are keen to have the former star on board.
The American owners would like to bring in somebody with a connection to the club and believe Ferdinand would be a good fit.

Other names that have been linked with the role are current assistant manager Mike Phelan and former midfielder Darren Fletcher.
Ferdinand, joined United from Leeds in 2002 for a then-record £30m fee.
The centre back spent 12 years at Old Trafford, making 455 appearances and playing a significant role in six Premier League-winning sides before leaving in 2014.
United are looking to make major changes both on and off the pitch following a disappointing campaign.
Jose Mourinho was sacked in December following a poor start in the Premier League and rumours of unrest behind the scenes.
Despite an initial upturn in form under Solskjaer, the club currently sixth in the table following a run of just two league wins in seven and look set to miss out Champions League qualification next season.
