Rio Ferdinand reacts to Liverpool statement and goads Reds fans ahead of game
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand could not contain his excitement as he hailed the news that his former club's clash with Liverpool will go ahead despite heavy snowfall.
Liverpool City Council's Safety Advisory Group met twice on Sunday before the game to discuss whether the match at Anfield would be safe to be staged. The North West has been blanketed with snow overnight as an amber weather warning was issued by the Met Office for the wider region, including the cities of Liverpool and Manchester.
Although snow is expected to "ease" heading into the evening, temperatures are still expected to say chilly, reaching a maximum of 2 °C. Despite more sleet and rain expected on Merseyside over the course of the day, it has since been confirmed that the game will go ahead as planned.

Meanwhile, former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher also issued a reaction of his own as he looked forward to watching the game later today as a pundit for Sky Sports. Taking to both X and Instagram, he simply posted: "Game on!"
His colleague Vinny O'Connor had previously posted a message which also read: "Game on!" alongside a previous post which showed the pitch at Anfield being cleared of snow as groundsmen worked to ensure the pitch fit for purpose in spite of the adverse weather conditions.
Beforehand, Liverpool issued the following statement as they confirmed that the match will go ahead: "Today’s fixture against Manchester United will go ahead as planned. Two safety meetings were held earlier to assess the weather and travel conditions.
"We thank everyone involved in helping us to get this game on today. If you’re travelling to Anfield then please take extra care. We look forward to seeing you there."
Likewise, Manchester United also issued a statement to supporters reading: "Following a second safety meeting, it has been decided that today's match between Manchester United and Liverpool will go ahead.
"There have been snowfall and weather warnings across the North West on Sunday but it has been deemed safe for fans to attend the 16:30 GMT kick-off. Take care if you are travelling to Merseyside today, Reds."
