Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand made his feelings clear about Amad's importance to Ruben Amorim's team following the 3-1 victory over Southampton in the Premier League.

United were the shadow of the side that drew with Liverpool and beat Arsenal on penalties at Old Trafford as the Reds were firmly second best to bottom of the table Southampton. They were deservedly behind at the break after Manuel Ugarte's own goal from a corner.

While Amorim's side were better in the second half, they did not look like threatening until Amad took matters into his own hands.

He equalised on 82 minutes with a brilliant solo effort before winning the match bang on 90 as he latched onto Christian Eriksen's chipped pass.

The Ivorian was then gifted the match ball as he capitalised on Taylor Harwood-Bellis' loose touch to tap the ball into an empty net.

It was hard to argue that any player deserved praise for the victory other than Amad at full-time and United's social media team seemed to see that point too.

Posting on their account a close up of Amad, they captioned the picture: "Him." Quick to respond to the post, Ferdinand emerged in the comments section with the reply: "Thank you."

The sentiment of Ferdinand was shared by Paul Scholes on TNT Sports when he reflected on the performance.

"It's solely because of Amad United have won this game, the rest of the players... [take a] long hard look at yourselves," the former midfielder said in exasperation.

United moved up to 12th in the table following that victory and shall host Brighton and Hove Albion next on Sunday.
