Robbie Fowler has insisted that Liverpool lacked any real intensity in their shock FA Cup exit at the hands of Championship strugglers Plymouth Argyle. The Reds' hopes of winning the quadruple were banished at Holmes Park as Ryan Hardie's second-half penalty caused the cup's biggest upset of the weekend so far.

Arne Slot's men, who were without the likes of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Alexis Mac Allister, failed to find a goal to take the tie to extra-time. Diogo Jota had the biggest opportunity to do so, but Conor Hazard pulled off a brilliant save. After the game, Fowler was asked for his thoughts on Liverpool's reaction to going behind and what was missing from the cup upset.

He said: "Not great, if I'm being honest. The response [was] probably in the final five minutes of the 90 and then the nine minutes.

"We saw the Liverpool that we probably wanted to see earlier in the game, where the intensity was better, they were moving the ball quicker and they were getting the ball into the box. That was missing for 85 minutes.

"You come into an atmosphere like this, it was intimidating, Liverpool players are used to playing in them atmospheres. But the intensity in which they moved the ball during the game, up until 85, was very un-Liverpool.

"We give them so much praise in midweek but it was the polar opposite tonight."
