Robbie Wallace’s Dakar Rally adventure gets underway
Northallerton’s Robbie Wallace gets his adventure of a lifetime underway this weekend with the start of the 2025 Dakar Rally which starts today, Friday, January 3, with the prologue in the Saudi Arabian province of Bisha.
Aboard his TCC Plant-sponsored KTM, the 27-year-old electrical engineer is one of 140 motorcycle competitors to tackle this year’s event, which sees 12 stages over the next 14 days, totalling 5,000 miles of desert riding, with more than 3,000 competitive miles and only one rest day before the finish in Shubaytah on Friday, January 17.
Wallace’s arrival in Jeddah didn’t quite go to plan last week, however, as following a lengthy overnight flight from Heathrow, Robbie and his dad Duncan went to check into their hotel to find there was a problem with the reservation being double booked so had to drive around the city looking for alternative accommodation.
There will be daily coverage of the event on Eurosport, and Wallace's progress can be followed on the Dakar app and website.
