Rooney: Guzan was determined I didn't score
Brad Guzan revealed he was determined to stop Wayne Rooney from scoring in his final match for England.
The two faced off after England’s former captain came on as sub to earn his 120th international cap in a friendly against America at Wembley.
The game was held in part to raise money for the Wayne Rooney foundation, and the home side ran out 3-0 winners, however Rooney was not on the scoresheet.
The DC United striker did come close to adding to his 53 goals when he forced Guzan into an excellent stop late into the game. After the final whistle, he was seen with Guzan exchanging words and some laughs.
Rooney had previously beaten Guzan in an MLS match, when he scored in DC’s 3-1 victory over Atlanta.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Rooney said: “It went as I imagined it. It was a great way to finish off my international career. Unfortunately I couldn’t get a goal.
“I scored past him a few weeks ago in the league so I don’t think he was in any mood to let one in.
“Another yard, it would have been a goal.
“In some ways it’s probably better it didn’t go in because it would have sparked another debate if it should have counted.”
For his part, Guzan explained how he stopped Rooney from scoring.
“I was saying to our defenders that obviously they were trying to get him to score, so we had to get close to him,” Guzan confirmed.
“You laugh and joke about it afterwards but in the midst of the game you’re not really thinking about it. You’re just trying to keep the ball out.
“We shared some words in the tunnel afterwards. It’s been a good move for him going to America.”
