Rory McIlroy stunned by ruthless Bryson DeChambeau remark over US Open collapse
Rory McIlroy had no comeback to a savage remark from his US Open nemesis Bryson DeChambeau after the pair engaged in some trash talking ahead of The Showdown in Las Vegas.
McIlroy will partner world number one Scottie Scheffler to take on LIV stars DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka in a one-off event on Tuesday at Shadow Creek Golf Club.
The format will be three six-hole contests to replicate the Ryder Cup with the first six holes as four-balls, the next as foursomes and finishing as two singles matches.

It will be the first time PGA Tour players and LIV players have competed against each other outside of the majors and the Olympics with LIV golfers banned from playing in PGA Tour events.
While McIlroy finished the year on a high with a win at the DP World Tour Championship, his 2024 season was blighted by a host of near-misses including a late collapse at the US Open at Pinehurst.
DeChambeau was the beneficiary of McIlroy’s meltdown with the Holywood native registering three bogies in the final four holes which allowed the American to claim his second US Open title.
With the four players mic’d up on the driving range, McIlroy’s decision to revisit the events at Pinehurst backfired.
"I'd like to go against Bryson and try to get him back for what he did to me at the US Open,” stated McIlroy.
However, DeChambeau countered: "To be fair you kind of did it to yourself."
McIlroy could offer no comeback, adding: “I don't really know where to go from there.”
McIlroy will be hoping to let his golf do the talking as he teams up with Scheffler against the LIV golf duo on Tuesday.
