Furious Ross County chiefs have slammed fans who ruined a tribute to Denis Law and former player Gordon Seaton - dubbing their actions “reprehensible”.

A minute’s silence was disrupted by flares being let off, singing and jeering from a section of the home end before the Scottish Cup defeat to Livingston. A group of youngsters were thrown out of the Global Energy Stadium. And now County chiefs are ready to hand the morons permanent bans as they launch a probe into the disturbance.

Scotland’s record goalscorer Law passed away on Friday and tributes were held before each of the weekend’s Scottish Cup clashes. Former Staggies player Seaton, a hero in the 60s, also died earlier this month.

A Ross County statement said: “Ross County FC are appalled at a small section of supporters in the singing section of the Jail End at our home game on Saturday. The group showed utter disrespect during the minutes silence for a former player and another national football icon.

“Their conduct was reprehensible and in addition to the jeering and inappropriate noise, several flares were ignited which was wholly dangerous, reckless and could have caused injury to those in the stand.

“Several youths were ejected and a retrospective police and club investigation is ongoing which may lead to prosecution and club bans. For the avoidance of any doubt Ross County FC do not accept that there is a place for such unacceptable conduct at our club and anyone who has information, please contact the club as we work our way through the detailed CCTV footage and other video recordings to identify the perpetrators.”
