Ross McCrorie has admitted Bristol City need to stop their inconsistent performances to mount a challenge for the play-off places ahead of their clash with Blackburn Rovers.

The Robins welcome John Eustace's side to Ashton Gate on Saturday afternoon as they look to end a three-match winless run in all competitions that followed an impressive spell of form over the festive period.

Liam Manning's Reds currently sit ninth in the Championship, four points adrift of Rovers who occupy the final spot in the top six. A win this weekend would help cut the gap to the play-off positions and ease the pressure on City who have come in for criticism for their displays against both Coventry City and Sheffield Wednesday.

Though McCrorie was happy with the second-half performance at Hillsborough as City twice came from behind to draw 2-2, he was left disappointed that he and his teammates didn't come away with the win in the end.

"First half I thought there were a few small details we had to pick up on, we didn't quite get the physical battle right," the defender told the City media team after the full-time whistle. "Second half, we probably had I would say more belief in ourselves, we attacked a lot more and we got down their throat and managed to pin them in their box.

"But, like I say, conceding two goals away from home is not what we want, especially when we score two goals so it's something we need to look at and pick up on. We've got a really determined group here.

"I look at the squad and I look at the bench, the depth we've got there and it's a real talented bunch. It's up to us, we need to get that consistency and stop with the inconsistent performances because if we want to be where we want to be at the end of the season, up there challenging, it's something we've got to improve on.

"As I say, the second half was top but disappointing that we didn't come back with three points."

Having joined the Robins in the summer of 2023, McCrorie has had an incredibly mixed start to his Bristol City career. When he has been fit, he has been a consistent performer at both right and left-back, but his time at Ashton Gate has been interrupted by injuries. The worst of which was the bone infection that saw him sidelined for half a season.

The Scotland international will be hoping that he has managed to put those issues behind him, especially after he finally managed to score his first goal in City colours against the Owls on Wednesday evening.

While it was a special occasion for the 26-year-old, the quick turnaround ahead of Saturday's clash with Blackburn Rovers means that his focus is well and truly focused on the weekend and securing all three points rather than his scoring heroics at Hillsborough.

"It's a proud moment for myself but as I say, I won't be dwelling on it too much," admitted McCrorie. "We've got a game in two days so it's a case of getting home, recovering and going again.

"I think we've just got to take confidence especially from that second-half performance and at home, we've got really good form at home. The fans are great backing as well. We've got a top team, top quality players in that squad and it's all about putting the fine details together and seeing where that takes us until the end of the season."
