What Rovers boss Eustace expects from 'difficult' Pompey clash
Rovers have a chance to gain ground in the play-off race when they host Portsmouth – but John Eustace is treating it like any other fixture.
A win would see Eustace’s side climb into the top six – above West Brom and Middlesbrough, who have no midweek fixtures.
However, the head coach knows it won’t be easy against a Pompey side looking to pull away from the relegation zone.
“We take every game very seriously and this is no different,” said Eustace. “It is an opportunity to be competitive again.
“You are not guaranteed wins or anything unless you work hard and see where it takes you. This game is going to be no different.
“They are a good team, they have had some excellent results of late and we know it is going to be really difficult.”
He added: “They are an exciting team, they are good going forward. They have got some really good players there, we know it is going to be a difficult game but one we are looking forward to.”
It is the start of another demanding period for Rovers, with five league games coming up in 17 days.
Eustace reckons the squad are in good shape following some important work on the training pitch and a good result at Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.
“We have just come through a real tough period with a lot of games,” he explained. “We have been able to get a good week’s work on the training field and a good result at the weekend.
“We are ready to go again, there are a lot of games in a short period of time but the squad will be ready.”
Ewood Park was packed with nearly 26,000 supporters during the last home game against Burnley, and Eustace believes that the fans will have a massive role to play for the remainder of the campaign.
“I think the fans have been fantastic this season, they have really played their part,” he stated.
“The 700 who travelled to Middlesbrough were exceptional. It was a really early start, with the weather conditions as well.
“We have been really grateful for their support this season and they will be a huge part in the remaining 21 games.”
