Here’s how The Lancashire Telegraph scored the players’ performances, with a six representing par for the course.

Aynsley Pears – 6

Didn’t have anything to do for most of the game but will be disappointed he allowed Potts to squeeze in a shot from a tight angle.

Callum Brittain – 7

Carried out some important defensive work but also showed he can get forward and inject quality when the opportunities arise.

Dom Hyam – 7.5

His bravery was rewarded with the penalty, which proved to be vital in securing the three points, and defended resiliently throughout.

Danny Batth – 7.5

Also showed plenty of heart in the backline, particularly as Rovers had their backs to the wall in the final stages.

Owen Beck – 7

General performance deserved a top rating but probably should have scored in the first half and could have done more to prevent the late goal.

Lewis Travis – 7

A tough game to step into after a spell on the sidelines but the skipper did a solid job in the middle of the pitch.

John Buckley – 7

Played a couple of lovely passes to help Rovers find space on the flanks. Will be keen to make the most of his opportunities while Tronstad is out injured.

Ryan Hedges – 7

Combined effectively with Beck, particularly in the first half, and his versatility continues to be a useful asset for Rovers.

Tyrhys Dolan – 8

Lovely cross for Gueye’s goal and looked bright throughout the contest, causing North End problems with his pace. Produced another big performance when Rovers needed him.

Andi Weimann – 7

Used his experience to link the play and could have had an assist on another day. Dropped deeper to help Rovers out of possession when required.

Makhtar Gueye – 7.5

Took his goal well and caused the PNE backline problems with his aerial ability, but might have got away with the penalty shout at the death.
