Kyle McFadzean has completed a permanent move to Chesterfield after reaching a mutual agreement to terminate his contract at Rovers.

The 37-year-old arrived at Ewood Park last January and played an important role as John Eustace's men avoided relegation.

Rovers re-signed the veteran defender in the summer, but he has only featured three times this season and now heads to League Two to prolong his career.

“It’s a difficult decision but the main thing is to let my family watch me play football again," McFadzean told the club channels. "Hopefully, I have got this season left and another next year.

"That is the main reason I want to take this step and try to help another team get to where they want to be with promotion. Hopefully, I can help them do that and my family gets to watch me play again.”

He added: "I have really enjoyed my time here. It has been unbelievable, to be honest. It is quite a big decision for me but I think it is the right step.

"I am a team player and a born winner. If you see me in training, I get upset if we lose! I have still got it in my belly, I am still hungry to win and play.

"If I didn’t have that then I could sit here and help the lads, but I want to go out there and try to help another team get where they want to be.”

Chesterfield currently sit 10th in the League Two table and seven points off the play-off places. The Spireites are back in action this weekend when they welcome Port Vale to the SMH Group Stadium.

Earlier this week, Eustace said: "He's a fantastic professional. Most importantly, he's a fantastic person. It was very important that we re-signed him in the summer.

"I think you can see the effect he's had on the whole group since he's been in the building. What he's done off the pitch this season has been fantastic.

"It's been a frustrating time for him because the two centre-halves have done so well. But he's really helped them and he's helped the younger boys as well.

"He's somebody that I've got a huge respect and admiration for. I'm very grateful for the efforts that he put in last season.

"I thought he might have got a few more games. But as I say, the centre-halves have been doing very well. He's somebody that I certainly wanted to keep in the group. But, you know, this is football."
