John Eustace has confirmed that Augustus Kargbo is available for Rovers’ trip to QPR – but Harry Leonard remains sidelined.

Kargbo watched from the stands as Rovers beat Preston North End on Friday night after completing his move from Italy.

Leonard was absent from the squad against North End due to injury and will not be involved at Loftus Road.

“(Kargbo) looked sharp today and we are delighted he is here,” said Eustace. “He will be in the squad to travel, for sure.

“(Leonard) won't be available for Tuesday. He took a knock on Thursday in training, he is being assessed at the moment.”

Kargbo, who can play as a striker or out wide, trained with his new team-mates on Thursday morning and Eustace is looking forward to working with him.

“The club have worked really hard to get the player in,” the head coach added. “They have done all the research on him and he flagged up as the number one target for the recruitment team.

“We all really excited that he is coming in and I think he can play anywhere across that front line. We are grateful he is here.”

The Sierra Leone international has spent his professional career in Italy, getting a taste of Serie A football for Crotone in 2023.

When asked if it will take time to adapt to Championship football, Eustace replied: “We have got good experience in the squad in that area so there is going to be no pressure on the lad.

“He is going to come in here and enjoy his football and hopefully, given time, he can come and win some games for us.”

Skipper Lewis Travis returned to the starting line-up against PNE following a spell out of action with a hamstring problem.

“We were on the front foot for the first minute. Obviously, when you have got your captain and the leader of the club coming back in the team, it is always going to help the boys,” said the boss.

“I thought the lads overall were fantastic. The performances have not been too bad over the course of the last four or six weeks. I am delighted to get the victory and we can move forward now.

“It is just about building confidence. The lads all keep believing in what we are doing and there is a real good feel around the club, even during January when the results have not been as good as we would want.

“The performances have been there, the togetherness has been there. Obviously, the win took us back into the play-offs which was a big boost for us.”
