Roy Keane will be hoping Manchester United pull off a shock against league leaders Liverpool this afternoon as he gives his take on the action for Sky Sports.

The Irishman's former club are languishing in 14th place in the Premier League and face a thriving Liverpool side, with Arne Slot's side sitting pretty at the top of the table, five points clear of second-place Arsenal with two games in hand. United have not won at Anfield in the last nine years, losing 7-0 and 4-0 to their rivals in that time.

Whatever the result, Keane will no doubt have something to say having developed a reputation as one of the most outspoken and matter-of-fact pundits in the game. His fiery opinions on some aspects of modern football follows on from his fearsome reputation on the pitch, with the former United, Nottingham Forest and Celtic man striking fear into his opponents on a weekly basis.

He was also one of the most successful footballers of his generation, winning seven Premier League titles, four FA Cups, four Community Shields, and a Champions League during his 12-year stint at United.

Away from football, however, Keane has showed his softer side in retirement, often sharing photos and humorous snapshots into his family life. He has been married to wife Theresa Doyle since 1997, with the pair meeting five years prior during the former midfielder's days at Forest.

Together, Keane and his wife have five children - Shannon, Caragh, Aidan, Leah and Alanna - as well as two grandchildren.

Leah - affectionally referred to by the United legend as 'Number 4' - has another footballing connection, having recently got engaged to Southampton and England defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis. While they previously kept their relationship out of the spotlight, the couple - who are believed to have been dating for five years - revealed in November that the footballer had popped the question in the summer.

In a photo shared on Instagram, the 22-year-old is seen getting down on one knee on a yacht, against the backdrop of Positano on Italy's Amalfi Coast. In the caption, Leah wrote simply: "'I can't wait to marry you."

Harwood-Bellis had quite the year in 2024, with his engagement coming between him winning promotion to the Premier League with the Saints and being called up for England by interim boss Lee Carsley. His international career got off to a brilliant start too, but he risked upsetting his new father-in-law as he scored on his first start in a 5-0 win over the Republic of Ireland.

Keane, who was on punditry duty for ITV for the match, joked after the full-time whistle that the defender's goal was "bittersweet" for him and that the engagement was "not done and dusted yet". However, he then gave the Southampton man his seal of approval.

"Over the last few months he’s definitely been a goal threat playing for Southampton, it’s nice for him," said the United legend. "It’s great for him to make his debut, as I said he’s a bit of a goal threat. He’s a nice kid, his family has done a great job."

However, 2025 has not got off to such a great start for Harwood-Bellis, as Saints were thrashed 5-0 by Brentford in a disastrous first game of the New Year. A second-half collapse saw Ivan Juric's side concede four goals, with fans accusing the defender of having his worst game in a Southampton shirt on another miserable day at St Mary's.

After the defeat, which leaves his side rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table, Harwood-Bellis admitted losing so heavily was "upsetting".

“Didn’t see it coming,” he said following the game. “It’s upsetting that we went out and that happened. It’s not nice. Just didn't feel like we were aggressive enough. Didn't feel like we had that intensity that we've had in the last three games. It shows that when we do turn up with intensity and we are aggressive that we’re always in the game, today was nowhere near it.

“I think with some boys, confidence might be low in there, but I actually don’t think it’s about confidence at the minute," he added. "I think it's about digging in and grinding a result out or being aggressive, that's not confidence. That's just having your own pride, which the boys have. We do have it, which is why it's such a hard one to take.”
