Royal Wootton Bassett Rugby Club suffer narrow loss to league leaders
Royal Wootton Bassett Rugby Club narrowly lost to league leaders Brixham by a single point.
Bassett made the long journey to South Devon undeterred, launching an immediate offensive that paid off when flanker Charlie Hix crossed into the corner after ten minutes of disciplined play.
Fly-half and captain Sam Baker successfully converted the kick, putting Bassett ahead 7-0 and momentarily quieting the sizeable Brixham home crowd.

Brixham responded, pressing back and scoring an unconverted try.
Moments later, Bassett centre Sam Cantwell broke through the defence, leading to prop Ollie Baycroft scoring under the posts.
Baker's successful conversion extended Bassett's lead to 14-5.
Brixham, however, reduced the deficit with a penalty before taking the lead for the first time with a well-worked converted try.
Just before half-time, Hix crossed the line again, giving Bassett a surprising 19-15 lead at the break.
Brixham appeared momentarily stunned by the turn of events.
The second half began with Bassett's Jamie Murray scoring a bonus point try, putting the team ahead 26-22 after another successful conversion from Baker.
This stirred Brixham into action, leading to their most dominant spell in the match.

They scored two tries, one of which was converted, taking the lead at 34-26.
Bassett, however, remained undeterred.
Another impressive try from Baycroft secured a losing bonus point for Bassett, with Baker's conversion finalising the score at 34-33.
Despite the tight loss, Bassett remains in sixth place on the league table and will be bolstered by the two additional bonus points.
The defeat marks the third time this season that the team has lost by just a single point, leaving them with mixed feelings.
Looking ahead, Bassett prepares for another journey down the M5 to face another Devon side, Sidmouth, who earlier in the season managed to defeat Bassett 13-12 in Wiltshire.
The Royal Wootton Bassett Rugby Club continues to fight hard in the league, showing resilience and skill despite their recent narrow defeats.
